A la vista de las manifestaciones de ayer en Iran, y de que en nuestro país nadie parece realmente alarmado (al contrario, hay muchos que hubiesen deseado estar allí gritando «muerte a los judíos»), he tenido que irme a la prensa extranjera, por ver qué comentaban por ahí.
Tony Blair delivered his strongest warning to Iran last night, saying Teheran would not be allowed to become a «threat to our world security».
He hinted that the West might have to resort to force. The Prime Minister said western allies would meet in the next few days to decide how to react after President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad called for Israel to be «wiped off the map».
While the initial response is likely to be an intensification of diplomatic pressure, senior British officials did not rule out the possibility that they could resort to force if Iran continued on its path of radical confrontation.
Speaking at a European summit at Hampton Court, west London, a visibly angry Mr Blair said Iran would be making «a very big mistake» if it believed western leaders were too preoccupied with other issues to deliver a strong response.
Western frustration with Iran has been building up for months, particularly over Teheran’s nuclear programme, its support for Palestinian radicals and suspicions that it has passed bomb-making technology to Iraqi insurgents who have killed at least eight British servicemen this year.
Mr Blair’s patience finally snapped after hearing Mr Ahmadinejad’s harangue at a Teheran conference entitled «The World Without Zionism», at which he declared: «The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world.
«As the Imam [the late Ayatollah Khomeini] said, ‘Israel must be wiped off the map’ … The Islamic world will not let its historic enemy live in its heartland.»
The Prime Minister said: «These sentiments are completely and totally unacceptable. I have never come across a situation where the president of a country says they want to wipe out another country – this is not acceptable. Their attitude towards terrorism, towards the nuclear weapons and towards Israel is not acceptable.«If they continue down this path, people are going to believe that they are a real threat to our world security and stability.»
Mr Blair said he felt a «real sense of revulsion» at the remarks.
Alluding to fears that after the war in Iraq the US and Britain could turn to Iran, he said: «I have been answering questions on Iran with everyone saying to me, ‘Tell us you are not going to do anything about Iran’. If they carry on like this the question people will be asking is, ‘When are you going to something about it?’ »
Asked whether Mr Blair was making a veiled threat of military action, a senior government source replied: «The prime minister didn’t use the ‘M’ word – but he is making clear that we have to think about these things very seriously indeed.» Earlier in the day, Mr Blair interrupted the EU summit so that fellow leaders could issue a joint condemnation.
«Calls for violence, and for the destruction of any state, are manifestly inconsistent with any claim to be a mature and responsible member of the international community,» they said.
«Such comments will cause concern about Iran’s role in the region, and its future intentions.»
The statement came on the same day as a suicide bomber from Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian radical faction supported by Iran, killed five Israelis and wounded at least 28 others in the town of Hadera.
Similar condemnation echoed around the western world.
Israel’s prime minister, Ariel Sharon, demanded that Iran be expelled from the United Nations. But Arab states, including Jordan and Egypt who have made peace with Israel, kept silent.
A telling response came from Moscow, which suggested it may no longer be able halt western attempts to report Iran to the United Nations Security Council over fears that Teheran is secretly trying to build nuclear weapons.
«I have to admit that those who insist on transferring the Iranian nuclear dossier to the United Nations Security Council have received an additional argument to do so,» said the Russian foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, during a trip to Jordan.
Lo mejor es la diferencia entre lo que ha salido en los días posteriores en Europa y lo que ha salido en Irán:
a) en Europa: : Admadenijad no llama a la destrucción de Israel pero califica de crimen imperdonable el reconocimiento de Israel. También asegura que Irán no suspenderá sus actividades nucleares. Ha intentado banalizar su postura diciendo que todos los líderes iraníes no han cesado de tener el mismo discurso desde hace 27 años (ehh, ¿Jatamí el de la Alianza de las Civilizaciones también? ¿y con quién quiere dialogar? ¿con muertos?).
«Ninguna persona en el mundo musulmán puede reconocer el Estado de Israel, un estado usurpador que mata todos los días» (los terroristas palestinos hacen cosquillas, según su versiçon…). Ha acusado asimismo a los aliados de Israel de equiparle con ojivas nucleares y de negar a Irán la tecnología nuclear civil (claro, así sí que sería fácil borrarle del mapa, ¿ehhh?). Asimismo, declaró que reanudaría sus actividades de enriquecimiento del uranio en breve. Se enfrenta a que la AIEA le imponga sanciones. (Y ¿qué tal otras a Rusia por colaboración al ser la que está construyendo la central nuclear?).
b) en Irán:
b.1.- El portavoz del Majlis (Parliament) Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel defendió este Domingo las declaraciones realizadas por el Presidente Ahmadenijad clamando para que Israel fuera «borrado del mapa» y rechazando el proceso de paz para Oriente Medio.
“Este año, en los días que precedieron al Día de Qods (Jerusalén), los Sionistas han creado una histeria en los medios de comunicación de todo el mundo”, dijo Haddad-Adel, refiriéndose a la repercusión mundial de la condena internacional a las palabras del presidente.
Haddad-Adel, cuya hija está casada con el hijo del Líder Supremo el Ayatollah Ali Khamenei -Jameini el Alianzador- (todo queda en familia), dijo al Parlamento que la razón más importante detrás del “terremoto creado por los SIonistas” era que no tuviera repercusión el Día de Jerusalén.
b.2.- El editor jefe del más importante periódico de Irán criticó a los gobiernos de Europa y de USA por criticar las declaraciones del extermista presidente de Iránen las que lanzaba una diatriba frente a Israel y el occidente, a la vez que reafirmaba que la «necesidad de borrar a Israel del mapa se ha definido como la política definida de la República Islámica del Irán desde el principio”.
“Declaramos explícitamente que no estaremos satisfechos con nada excepto con la eliminación completa del régimen Sionista del mapa político del mundo”, escribió Hassan Shariatmadari, un confidente cercano al Líder Supremo Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, en la edición del domingo del periódico.
Y, por cierto, Tony Blair tiene un problema con el príncipe Carlos que ha declarado: planea pedir a Bush que sea más tolerante con el islam (ejem, ejem…). criticó a América por tener una retórica de enfrentamiento con los musulmanes y porque, a su juicio, los atentados del 11S no pueden perjudicar la reputación de los cientos de millones de musulamnes que cumplen la ley en el mundo. también estuvo presente en la cena, el Sr. Mahmood, un diputado laborista que dijo que la crítica que hizo el Príncipe Carlos de los americanos se debe a que no tienen el aprecio (imagino que no sería agradecimiento, porque appreciation puede ser las dos cosas…) que nosotros tenemos por el Islam y su cultura. (juas, juas, lo dice un musulmán…). El príncipe dijo que quería promover un mayor entendimiento entre las religiones del mundo y que quería compartir con los americanos el cariño que sentía por el Islam (claro, así no hubiera tenido problemas: se hubiera casado a la vez con Lady Di y con Camilla y todo arreglado..)
