Es increíble! Alucinante!
Spain under attack over migrant deaths
EMMA ROSS-THOMAS
IN MELILLAUN SECRETARY-General Kofi Annan has urged Spain to treat migrants humanely after a series of deaths amid the hundreds trying to get into Europe via their enclaves in Morocco.
Eleven people have been killed in the last 10 days as migrants tried to get into Europe by crossing the razor wire fences around Melilla and Ceuta.
Annan said: «The secretary-general believes these regrettable events in this one region of the world point to a wider problem in dealing with the inevitable and necessary flow of people across borders.»
Spain’s decision to return some migrants was criticised by human rights groups, particularly after humanitarian group Medecins Sans Frontieres claimed it had found 500 African migrants, including children and pregnant women, dumped deep in the desert by Moroccan police.
MSF spokesman Carlos Ugarte said the group treated more than 50 people with injuries from anti-riot weapons and cuts from the wire fence and sent six with serious injuries to hospital. Amnesty International is urging Spain not to send people to Morocco. Spokesman Angel Gonzalo said: «It seems clear that what Morocco does with immigrants is to take them to the desert.»
Mario da Silva, who left Guinea Bissau two years ago and arrived in Melilla last month, said he and his companions at the overcrowded Red Cross centre were frightened they might be the next to end up in the desert. «People could die. I went through the desert the first time and it’s very dangerous,» said Da Silva, whose travelling companion died in the desert trying to reach Spain.
La «legalidad internacional» ya nos empieza a señalar, y con exactamente el mismo criterio que en el caso israelí.
